So, you want to learn how to become a boudoir photographer. What’s so great about this photography profession? To start, it’s a high-paying industry, but it’s also fun! Plus, you get to meet beautiful people on a regular basis, and some of them you may even go on to date! Some of my best memories were spent with someone I met while working as a photographer, and I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything!
How to Become a Boudoir Photographer – it’s really not that hard to learn how to be a photographer! It is, however, important that you get educated on the art of photography in general before you try to become one. Many people think that all you need to do to become a photographer is taking pictures. This is wrong, although some of the most talented photographers out there do have a knack for taking great pictures. Get educated on all aspects of photography from the most basic to the most intricate!
Where to Start on Your Learning Process – There are many schools out there that offer photography lessons. Most of them will focus on an aspect of the field that interests you (i.e. close up, macro, or nature). If you feel like you’re up to learning more than what the teacher is covering, then sign up for a class at a community college or technical college! It will make your learning process that much easier!
How to Catch the Right Projects – Most photographers either struggle with finding projects or don’t even know where to start! It’s very difficult for someone who is new to this to just randomly go out and start taking pictures of random people. The best thing to do is find something that interests you, that you can relate to, that you see yourself doing well with.
Get Exposure – Once you’ve discovered a few good projects, start getting some exposure. You can always wait for your photo shop to do so for you. But you don’t want to be in a position where you’re worrying that someone is going to say that they didn’t like your work…which is exactly what might happen if you were self-employed! Once you are signed up as a member of a boudoir club, you will be provided with contacts that will help you gain more exposure.
Take Some Photography Courses – It goes without saying that one of the first things you must do is take some photography courses. Taking a class will not only teach you more about the craft itself, but it will give you more practice. It is a very competitive industry, so it is important to always “keep your chin up” and keep trying to learn more. When I graduated, I started my career as a photographer and took just as many photography classes as I did art class. In fact, I took more art classes than I did photography classes!
Set Up A Website – If you are serious about being a photographer and want to build a clientele, then you need to have a website. This will be where your potential clients will go to see more of your work and communicate with you. I recommend having a blog as this will really show off your work and also make you look more professional!
These are just a few of the tips you can use on how to become a boudoir photographer. There are plenty more tips out there, but I think these will get you well on your way. Just remember to be yourself and don’t worry about how someone else may feel about your work. If you can do that then you will be well on your way to being a great boudoir photographer!
