BONUS: This also removes pesky redness in skin tones!
Amber Fife here, your Photoshop teacher for The Photographer’s Element! I have a simple tip here about helping your subject’s skin to glow.
It all comes from a simple curves adjustment layer.
Once opening your image in Photoshop you’ll open a Curves Adjustment Layer and it will have a diagonal line like below:
If you bring your mouse to the line toward the top, and click and barely drag upward, you’ll move the whole line into a gentle curve. This allows the mid tones and shadows to proportionally adjust as well in a subtle way. See the results below:
WHY DO THIS:
This technique is especially helpful when your subject has skin imperfections or slight redness. It’s quite subtle, but this simple technique brings the skin (and overall image) just a little brighter.
Hopefully you’re getting your exposures right in camera thanks to the other classes you’re taking with us, but this simple trick can just give a nice lift to your subject’s complexion.
Here’s before and after:
Go try it out now! I’d love to see some of your examples! And if you don’t have a clue how to start doing what I’m saying, please come join me!! I’d love to have you. Starting from the absolute beginning, we learn all the basic essentials you’ll need to get started.
I can’t wait to teach you more in our upcoming class, Get Grounded in Photoshop!
P.S. Did you know Amber teaches a Photoshop course for total beginners? Registration opens next week for Get Grounded in Photoshop! Learn more here:
She brings her years of experience working with Photoshop as well as Artificial Light — wonderful skills for you to have to take your photography to the next level.
Despite being a world traveler, Amber loves being at home with her 3 boys and husband. She loves curling up with a good book, and editing her pictures– it’s like Christmas morning every time she gets home from a shoot, when she gets to download and edit her pictures. She hopes you can find the joy of learning to love your images and not be overwhelmed by Photoshop any longer.
